BACK and FAT from the weekend! usually we get two days only for thanksgiving, but me...i believe in making your own vacation days. so i took a whole week off. =D sheemeeh. our classes didn't teach anything, don't look at me like a good little chinese kid.
[DONT READ IF YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE DRIVE OF LIFE YET]
so i finally finished the drive of life when i had the time to, and it was actually a pretty good series...past like, the twentieth episode. i have to admit, i hated the theme song when i first heard it for the first ten times, but after that, i loved it. especially steven chou. or whatever the heck his name is. the good thing about it was it's length. 60 episodes does sound daunting but it was just enough to drag out to make the ending come together nicely unlike HOG and most TVB series which have super bad endings. the characters were well thought out and the plot was well written. some of the things that went on, i could guess, but other parts i couldn't and that was fun.
damian lau as "wah mun hon" - lemme tell ya...he was GOOD. he played his 'big man role' real nice, i actually felt bad for gigi wong who played his wife at times. when he broke his legs, that scene when he first woke up in the hospital was very powerful; he depicted his character real well in that scene. and i love his furrowed face through most of the movie. it must have been tiring to do that the whole time. when he walked on that cane, i was convinced that he needed it. excellent job on his part. [i get a crack out of his real chinese name lau chong yun = worm man. hahahaha]
liao jing sheng as "wah mun hong" - i didn't like him and his nose. his nose looked funny. im sorry, i don't mean to be mean...sorta, but his nose did look like a bull nose, and when i was watching the whole time, i couldn't help but focus on that one detail. BUT when i wasn't watching his peculiar nose, i did notice that his acting was okay. i think the voice over could have done better... i hate voice overs
michael miu as "wah mun shek" - i guess it's good acting that made me hate his childish nature. but during TDOL i didn't really think he was that attractive. i loved loved loved his outfits though. but i didn't get that 'george clooney' effect from him.
gigi wong as "hui zam yun" - what the hell kind of name is that?? when damian first called out her chinese name i was like, what?? out of all the elegant names someone can pick from so many chinese letters someone decided to call her zam yun. it just ruins it all. she was pretty good in her role, but i think it could have been better. i felt like she didn't have such a hard grasp on her character. with a series this long though, i guess maybe she was afraid that if she got too into it, she couldn't get out of it?? i don't know.
sheren tang as "wong siu fun" - i've always thought she was a good actress, and she just got better. this woman goes from evil to semi-evil to whole heartedly good, and the transition that she provides for her character flowed nicely with the plot. it wasn't forced much like i thought gigi wong's character was.
raymond lam as "wah zhun bong" - his relationship with charmaine sheh gave me butterflies in my stomach just watching. i felt like there was so much chemistry between them that it made it very believable. he as a whole was pretty okay. but i don't think that this was his best. he's cute...but i don't really know about his acting. i don't think it's been max-ed out yet. [i know raymond fans will kill me, but i'll say it for bernice too. i love that girl, but she still hasn't done her best yet. <-- more on awards later]
jessica hsuan as "wah ching yu" - i hated her...character. i kept fasting forward when she and joe's scenes were on. i could not stand how she was being so ignorant towards what people were telling her. i kept shouting at the TV at her character. well done, but i didn't like her hairstyle in her earlier years. ugly
joe ma as "ngai wing bew" - i think he was mediocre. compared to ng wai kwok [his uncle] he pales. you can't have two evil ngai family men and have one of them mediocre. it doesn't work.
charmaine sheh as "wing sau fung" - i loved her character. she's always been a great actress in my eyes, and this time she was no exception. i really liked how she lets the character evolves, and props for her to have such great chemistry with raymond.
myolie wu as "fong bing ye" - another bad chinese name. every time they said her name i couldn't help think about that word in chinese 'bing' meaning...to beat you up, i guess. it sounds so vulgar...the name. it doesn't role off your tongue nicely. overall, her character was okay. its not realistic. at some point i remember saying to my TV, don't be stupid, move on retard.
feng shao feng as "wah zhun mun" - he's cute. when he got together with that girl i got mad. she was ugly. the pairing in the end with myolie was MUCH better. other than that, i can't think of anything else to comment about him.
ng wai kwok as "ngai teen hung" - ooohh, i loved this guy. he was evilly good. TVB should come out with a an award title as the best villain. [what is up with mainland favorite actor/actress?! thats not an award]
toby leung as "wah ching lum" - she's not a significant character to me, but i'm putting her in here because i want to bash her character. this girl is already not that pretty and so i love how they cut her hair to make her look uglier. in her scenes when she gets into a fit about her parents fighting...c'mon! they were saying that she was a college graduate meaning that she's about 22/23. and i can tell you that a 2-something does not cry that way and does not throw a fit that way. and she made her relationship with michael miu too relationship-y. it made me want to gag.
overall, i love how the whole production tries to promote china. i like how they manage to slip in a few phrases that brown-noses china throughout the series. i really do like the length of it, but the upcoming diamond one with 80 episodes is too much for me. i don't know if i want to spend time to watch that one.
