25 days till christmas

Nov 28, 2007
so the TVB 40th anniversary awards was the other day. since watching the awards from a couple of years ago, i've already said that TVB needs to embrace the 'american' way of award shows. the TVB award show reminds me slightly of the emmys but a lower class one. so here are a couple of things that TVB can learn from the emmys.

1. try getting press coverage for the stars on the "red carpet." with the emmys, E!, hollywood, ET, etc. all crowd around the carpet to get the first interview with a special star. TVB could give the fans a little more smirk by allowing perhaps EBuzz or Scoop onto the red carpet to interview these artists about their feelings, what they are wearing, yada yada yada. i think that would be a lot more fun to watch than just seeing them arrive in a car, dash down the red carpet like they're running away, and onto the stage.

2. better presenters. the presenters who kept pointing out that they were being "rolled" was weird. its like, okay, don't point it out, just keep talking, it's a live show of course they're going to rush you off. some of them were talking about things that didn't even make sense or wasn't remotely funny.

3. better camera men. was it just me, or did the camera men that night did not know how to capture the best moments? the cameras did not stay on the nominee's when someone lost or when someone won to capture their facial expressions. plus, they need more cameras. if the presenter is talking, and doodoo interupts [which is unprofessional] then another camera should be focused on her as well. the point of the awards show is to capture everything.

4. host the show in a grander area. perhaps a nice hotel or something where there are dinner tables so everyone's relaxed and among their choice of guests, or where the artists can sit in the audience with everyone else so that the only people on stage are the presenters, the hosts, and the performers if there are any. every year, the TVB award show is held in that crappy looking audience hall that makes it look so low class. so even if the artists do wear nice stuff, their backdrop doesn't match them, making it seem weird.

5. a professional voting board. the emmys have what they call the academy, which is a board of professional people from every aspect of what it takes to make a show, who casts their votes. TVB awards are completely rigged, there is no denying it. we all know. TVB has favorites and those favorites are who wins that year. thats pathetic because that means that you actually encourage brown nosing and not actual talent.

6. better award categories. instead of crowding everyone into these stupid categories and making new ones to please the audience [ie the favorite mainland whatever award], come up with actual award categories that make sense...like, the best villain, or best on-screen kiss. [best on-screen kiss isn't actually from the emmys. hehe. it's from the mtv awards. but i still like that category] but like, the best villain award? everyone wants to be evil at one point in their career, and some do it really well. like drive of life ng wai kwok or even shirley yeung in the brink of law. they were gOOd

and if you guys have watched the emmys before, notice that the show as an hour of fashion, and at least three hours of the award show. i never understand why TVB has to rush through their awards like a dying chicken.
